Crafting Effective Prompts for Copilot

Lesson 4: Build and Test Your Copilot Prompt Library

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Build reusable prompts for recurring Copilot tasks.
  • Test each prompt on several inputs, including a tricky case.
  • Save and share prompts where they will be used.

Lesson Content

A prompt library turns your best prompts into tools:

  1. Template: replace changing details with [brackets].
  2. Test: run each on three inputs, including one tricky case (missing data, a very long thread, an angry tone).
  3. Fix: add a rule for each failure.
  4. Save: store prompts where you work. Many Microsoft 365 setups let you save prompts for reuse (for example, in a prompt gallery or saved prompts list); otherwise use OneNote or a shared document.
  5. Version: note what changed and keep the previous version until the new one proves better.
