Brand Customization and Consistency
Lesson 2: Establishing Team Standards for Consistent Production
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Define approved avatar and voice selections per content type
- Document team standards in a shareable reference
- Communicate standards to new team members effectively
- Identify and address consistency drift in a team content library
Lesson Content
Defining approved selections per content type.
Rather than leaving avatar, voice, and template selection to individual discretion on each video, define approved selections per content type: which avatar and voice are approved for employee training, for external marketing content, for executive communication, and so on. This transforms individual creative decisions into standardized choices that produce consistent output across team members.
Documenting standards.
A brief written reference (a single shared document or team wiki page) documenting approved selections per content type is more reliable than informal team knowledge – which doesn't transfer consistently to new members and degrades over time as the team changes. Include: approved avatar per content type, approved voice and speed settings, color hex values, logo file names in the brand kit, and template names per video type.
Communicating to new team members.
Include brand standards documentation in onboarding for anyone who will produce HeyGen content – a new marketing coordinator who hasn't seen the standards document will make independent choices that may not align with established conventions, creating inconsistency in the content library over time.
Identifying consistency drift.
Periodically review recently produced content as a set – not just individually – to identify whether any drift from established standards has crept in. Individual videos that "look fine" in isolation may collectively show inconsistency (different avatar choices, different color usage) that only becomes visible when comparing the content library as a whole.
