Using Templates Effectively

Lesson 3: Building a Reusable Template System

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Save a customized template for reuse
  • Organize a template library for efficient ongoing production
  • Establish template naming conventions for a team context
  • Maintain and update templates as brand standards evolve

Lesson Content

Saving customized templates.

After customizing a template for brand fit, save it as a reusable version (if the platform supports saving custom templates) so future videos of the same type start from the brand-customized version rather than re-customizing the original library template each time. Verify current custom template saving capabilities at heygen.com.

Organizing a template library.

A production team with multiple video types benefits from a small, well-organized library of brand-customized templates – one per video type (explainer, training module, product announcement, etc.) – rather than re-selecting and re-customizing from scratch for each video. Clear naming conventions by content type make templates findable.

Team template management.

For team accounts, ensure custom templates are accessible to the team members who need them (verify workspace sharing settings) and that naming conventions are documented so new team members can find the right template without needing to ask each time.

Updating templates when brand standards change.

When brand colors, typography, or logo marks change, update the corresponding custom templates systematically rather than individually – identifying which templates use the old branding and updating them before the next round of content production.
