Script Writing and Voice Control
Lesson 1: Writing Effective Scripts for AI Delivery
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Write conversational, spoken-language scripts rather than written-language prose
- Structure sentences for natural AI delivery rhythm
- Avoid common script writing patterns that produce awkward AI delivery
- Edit existing written content into effective AI delivery scripts
Lesson Content
Writing for ears, not eyes.
Content written for reading (long sentences, complex nested clauses, formal paragraph structure) often sounds unnatural when spoken by an AI voice. Effective scripts for AI delivery use shorter sentences, conversational vocabulary, and natural spoken-language rhythm – the way a skilled presenter would actually say something, not how it would be written in a formal document.
Sentence length and structure.
Short to medium-length sentences, each making one clear point, typically produce better AI delivery than long, complex multi-clause sentences. If content is complex, break it into a series of shorter connected statements rather than compressing it into one long sentence that the AI voice may pace awkwardly.
Common patterns that produce awkward delivery.
Patterns to avoid: starting many consecutive sentences the same way (the AI voice may deliver these with too-similar rhythm), using heavy jargon that the voice may mispronounce, including very long lists within a single sentence (the AI may rush through them), and using em dashes or parenthetical asides mid-sentence (which can disrupt delivery flow).
Editing existing content into scripts.
Often the starting point is a document, brief, or copy written for text format. Converting this to a good AI delivery script typically involves: shortening sentences, removing formal-text conventions (footnote references, parenthetical citations, passive voice), and reading the script aloud mentally to check whether it sounds natural before committing to generation.
