Creating Your First Avatar Video
Lesson 2: Configuring Layout, Background, and Scene Settings
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Select or configure an appropriate background for the video's context
- Position the avatar within the video frame
- Add text overlays, logos, or supplementary visual elements
- Structure a multi-scene video for longer content
Lesson Content
Background selection and configuration.
Backgrounds range from simple solid colors to office/environment scenes to custom uploaded images or video loops. The background should complement the content's tone (a clean, minimal background for formal content; an environment scene for more contextual warmth) without distracting from the avatar and script. Verify current background options at heygen.com.
Avatar placement and layout.
The avatar can typically be positioned at different sizes and locations in the frame – full-frame, side-positioned with space for text, or smaller inset depending on the layout template. The layout choice should reflect how much of the frame should be dedicated to the avatar versus visual space for text, graphics, or product visuals.
Adding supplementary visual elements.
Text overlays (titles, key points, captions), logo placement, and simple graphic elements can be added to scenes – useful for reinforcing key points visually, maintaining brand identity, or structuring educational content where on-screen text supports the spoken content.
Multi-scene structure.
Longer videos can be structured as sequences of scenes, each with potentially different content, backgrounds, and text overlays – similar to a presentation slide structure. Each scene has its own script segment. This allows introducing visual variety across a longer video without the avatar disappearing from view.
