Lesson 2: Client-Facing Quality Standards for AI-Assisted Design
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Establish client-appropriate quality standards for AI-assisted design
- Implement accuracy review processes for AI-generated content
- Manage client expectations about AI-assisted production
- Apply brand compliance standards to AI-generated output
Lesson Content
Client-appropriate quality standards.
Client-facing AI-assisted design requires quality standards that match what the client would expect if the work were done entirely manually – AI assistance doesn't lower the quality bar. This means: structural quality (layout, hierarchy, composition appropriate for the brief); content accuracy (text content is factually correct and strategically appropriate); brand compliance (all brand standards correctly applied without AI-default deviations); and visual quality (imagery, animation, and design execution meeting professional standards).
Accuracy review for AI-generated content.
AI-generated text content – Magic Write output, Magic Design-generated headlines and copy – must be reviewed for factual accuracy before client delivery. Specific review priorities: statistics and claims should be verified against sources; product descriptions and feature claims must be accurate; calls to action must reflect actual offer terms; legal and compliance-relevant language must be reviewed by appropriate stakeholders. AI text is plausible, not verified – the designer's review responsibility doesn't change because AI produced the draft.
Client expectation setting for AI-assisted production.
Transparency about AI-assisted production – when appropriate – sets accurate expectations about production timelines and the nature of the deliverables. Some clients specifically request AI-assisted production for speed and cost efficiency; others expect fully manual production. Understanding client expectations and being clear about methodology prevents misalignment, particularly for projects where the client has specific methodology requirements or concerns about AI content.
Brand compliance in AI-assisted production.
Brand compliance for client work requires: that the client's Brand Kit is correctly configured before production begins; that AI tool outputs are reviewed for brand deviation before delivery; that any AI-generated imagery is appropriate for the client's brand aesthetic and approval; and that AI-generated copy reflects the client's established brand voice. Brand compliance is ultimately the designer's responsibility – AI tools don't assume responsibility for brand standard adherence.
