Lesson Content
Magic Eraser – object removal.
Magic Eraser removes specified objects from an image by painting over the unwanted element – the AI fills in the erased area with an AI-generated replacement based on the surrounding image context. Accessed through the image edit menu. Best for: removing small to medium unwanted objects from images (photobombers, distracting background elements, unwanted products in a scene); removing watermarks or stamps from test images; and cleaning up environmental clutter.
Magic Eraser quality factors.
Result quality depends on: the size of the erased area relative to the image (smaller, simpler erasures produce cleaner fills); background complexity around the erased area (simple, consistent backgrounds fill more cleanly than complex textures); and precision of the paint stroke (accurately painting only the unwanted element produces cleaner fills than imprecise strokes that include surrounding area).
Magic Edit – targeted image changes.
Magic Edit makes targeted changes to a selected area of an image – painting a mask over the area to change, then describing what the area should become. Unlike erasing (remove and fill), Magic Edit replaces the masked area with AI-generated content based on the text description. Useful for: changing a product's color in a photograph, replacing background environmental elements, adding or changing objects in a scene.
Choosing between Magic Eraser and Magic Edit.
Use Magic Eraser when: the goal is simply to remove something and have the background fill naturally. Use Magic Edit when: the goal is to change something into something specific – replace, transform, or add content to a specific image area with AI-generated content directed by a text description.
