Lesson Content

Systematic placeholder replacement.

Magic Design templates contain placeholder text, images, and colors that need to be replaced with real brand content. A systematic replacement approach: (1) Replace all text placeholders with real content, starting with the most prominent elements; (2) Replace placeholder images with owned or licensed images; (3) Apply brand colors to all design elements; (4) Apply brand typography to all text elements. Systematic replacement prevents inadvertently leaving placeholder elements in the published design.

Applying brand colors.

Canva's brand colors can be applied globally in designs that use Canva Brand Kit – or manually adjusted through the color picker. For Magic Design outputs: identify each colored element and replace with the appropriate brand color. Pay particular attention to brand-identifying color elements like buttons, accents, and backgrounds where the default template color may strongly differ from the brand palette.

Adapting typography to brand standards.

Replace template fonts with brand-appropriate fonts: primary headline fonts, secondary body text fonts, and accent fonts if applicable. Canva's Brand Kit enables applying brand fonts globally – saving significant time compared to individually adjusting each text element. After font replacement, review spacing and sizing to ensure the brand typography reads as well as the template typography in the design layout.

Final quality review.

After adaptation, review the full design for: all placeholders replaced with real content; consistent brand color application throughout; typography matching brand standards; visual hierarchy appropriate for the content; and overall professional quality that meets the brand's design standard. Adaptation quality determines whether the final output reads as a polished brand design or a lightly customized template.
