Lesson Content
Accessing Magic Write.
Magic Write is accessed from within a text box in Canva – clicking the Magic Write option in the text toolbar or text context menu opens the AI writing interface. Magic Write generates text directly into the text element, providing a draft that can be edited within the design. Verify current interface access method at canva.com as interface details may change.
Entering generation prompts.
Magic Write accepts brief prompts describing the intended text content: "3 bullet points about the benefits of meditation," "a short Instagram caption for a summer sale," "a headline for a fitness brand social post," "two sentences describing this product's main feature." More specific prompts produce more targeted output; vague prompts produce generic content.
Generated text as a draft starting point.
Magic Write generates a first draft – not finished copy. Treat AI-generated text as a starting point that requires editing: verify accuracy, adjust tone for brand voice, refine for the specific design context, and edit for length to fit the design layout. AI-generated text that goes directly from Magic Write to published design without review and editing typically shows quality issues.
Best content types for Magic Write.
Magic Write is most effective for: short-form copy (captions, taglines, headlines, bullet points), brainstorming draft options, overcoming blank-page resistance when starting copy, and generating variation options for A/B testing. It is less appropriate for: content requiring factual accuracy verification (product specifications, legal content), highly personalized brand voice, and long-form body copy that benefits from deep strategic thinking.
