Commercial-Safe AI Workflows with Firefly

Lesson 2: Content Considerations for Commercial Production

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Identify content types requiring extra caution in commercial Firefly use
  • Apply appropriate practices for generated imagery involving people
  • Recognize and avoid generated content with trademark or brand concerns
  • Review generated content for commercial appropriateness before use

Lesson Content

Generated imagery involving people.

AI-generated people in commercial imagery present specific considerations: Defamation and likeness – generated images should not depict specific identifiable real people in commercial contexts without appropriate clearances, particularly in ways that could be misleading or defamatory; Generated diversity – while Firefly can generate diverse subjects, actively review generated people imagery for unintended demographic bias or stereotyping that could create brand risk; Model release equivalents – for commercial advertising use depicting people (even AI-generated people), some jurisdictions and platforms may have developing standards around disclosure. Monitor evolving standards for AI-generated person depictions in commercial advertising.

Trademark and brand element considerations.

Generated content may inadvertently include recognizable brand logos, trademarks, or design elements – particularly in lifestyle or environmental images with realistic product placements. Review generated images for any recognizable brand elements that could create trademark concerns if used commercially. Firefly includes safety filters to reduce trademark generation, but review remains important for commercial use. Prompts that intentionally generate content resembling specific brand identities or trademarks are inappropriate for commercial use regardless of training data licensing.

Property and location rights.

Generated images depicting specific recognizable buildings, artworks, or private properties may raise property rights questions in commercial advertising use – particularly for distinctive architecture or publicly displayed artworks. For commercial advertising campaigns using AI-generated environmental imagery, be aware that depicting highly recognizable specific properties in advertising may require consideration beyond IP licensing of the training data.

Content review process for commercial use.

A commercial content review checklist for Firefly-generated images: No recognizable real individuals who would not have consented to commercial use of their image; No unintended trademark or brand elements from identifiable third-party brands; Subject matter appropriate for the commercial context and audience; No content that could be misleading, defamatory, or create brand risk; Platform-appropriate (if the commercial content will run on specific platforms, review against those platforms' AI content policies). Document reviews for commercial projects.
