Lesson Content

What Generative Recolor does.

Generative Recolor (accessed through Edit menu -> Recolor Artwork -> Generative Recolor, or through the Recolor Artwork panel – verify current location) generates color palette variations for selected vector artwork based on text descriptions. Rather than manually selecting replacement colors, the designer describes the desired color character in text, and Firefly generates multiple recolor variations that apply that color direction to the selected artwork.

Writing prompts for Generative Recolor.

Generative Recolor prompts describe the target color palette character: Specific palette – "deep navy blue and warm gold, classic and prestigious"; Mood-based – "warm sunset palette, orange, amber, and soft pink tones, energetic and inviting"; Theme-based – "spring nature palette, soft greens and pale blossoms, fresh and delicate"; Brand-based – "bold brand red and clean white, strong and confident, sports energy." The prompt generates multiple variations; Firefly presents color options in the Recolor Artwork panel for selection.

Generative Recolor for brand color adaptation.

A practical use for Generative Recolor: adapting a designed illustration or icon set to match different brand color standards. Describe the brand's color palette in the prompt – "deep forest green and warm cream, organic and natural brand aesthetic, minimal accent of terracotta" – and Generative Recolor applies that palette direction to the artwork. This is more efficient than manually mapping each color relationship when adapting artwork for a new brand's color system.

Managing generated variations.

Generative Recolor presents multiple color variations for selection – the designer selects the preferred variation or uses it as a starting point for further manual adjustment in the Recolor Artwork panel. Generated variations can be applied directly to the artwork or refined with manual color adjustments. Saving named recolor presets preserves successful color variations for future use on the same artwork or similar projects.
