Lesson Content

What Adobe Firefly is.

Adobe Firefly is Adobe's family of generative AI models for creative content generation – including image generation, text effects, vector generation, and other creative AI capabilities. Firefly is built into Adobe's Creative Cloud ecosystem and is designed for use by creative professionals who need AI-assisted content generation that integrates with their existing design workflows.

Firefly's training and commercial safe positioning.

A key aspect of Adobe's positioning for Firefly is that the Firefly models are trained on licensed content – specifically Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content, and public domain content with expired copyrights. Adobe's intent with this training approach is to produce AI-generated content that creative professionals and enterprises can use in commercial work with fewer intellectual property concerns than some other AI image generators. Verify current Adobe commercial use terms at adobe.com before using Firefly outputs in commercial work.

The Firefly family of tools.

The Firefly product family includes several distinct generative capabilities (availability evolves – verify current tools at adobe.com): Text to Image – generates images from text descriptions; Generative Fill – fills or replaces selected areas in images using AI generation directed by text; Generative Expand – extends image canvas with AI-generated content; Text Effects – applies AI-generated styles and effects to text; and Generative Recolor – generates color variations of vector artwork. These tools address different creative production tasks.

Firefly and the Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem.

Firefly is integrated into multiple Adobe Creative Cloud applications – Photoshop, Illustrator, Express, and others – in addition to the standalone Firefly web application at firefly.adobe.com. This integration means Creative Cloud users can access Firefly's generative capabilities without leaving their primary application – generating assets directly within their working environment.
