Lesson 2: Maintaining Consistency Across a Long Project

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Document settings to maintain consistency across sessions
  • Identify and address consistency drift across a long project
  • Handle pronunciation consistency for recurring terms across the project
  • Apply spot-check techniques to catch consistency issues

Lesson Content

Documenting settings for cross-session consistency.

Record the exact voice, stability/expressiveness settings, and any pronunciation customizations used for the project at its start, so later sessions (potentially days or weeks apart) use identical settings rather than introducing subtle drift from slightly different configuration each session.

Identifying consistency drift.

Periodically compare segments generated in different sessions – does the voice character, pacing, and overall delivery feel consistent across segments produced weeks apart? Subtle drift can occur even with identical documented settings, depending on the platform's underlying model and any updates that occurred between sessions.

Pronunciation consistency for recurring terms.

For a long project with recurring proper nouns, technical terms, or invented words (common in fiction), maintain a pronunciation reference (similar to the pronunciation guidance techniques covered earlier) ensuring the same term is pronounced identically every time it appears, rather than potentially varying across different segments generated at different times.

Spot-check techniques.

Rather than reviewing only sequentially as segments are produced, periodically spot-check segments from different points in the project together – listening to a segment from early production alongside one from late production specifically checking for drift that sequential-only review might not surface.
