Lesson 2: Interview Preparation with Grok’s Direct Feedback

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Use Grok for direct, blunt mock interview practice
  • Research companies using both Grok's training and X integration
  • Prepare specific, research-backed interview questions
  • Develop a strong "tell me about yourself" response

Lesson Content

Mock interview practice – Grok's directness as advantage.

Grok's design philosophy makes it a better mock interview partner than tools that default to balanced encouragement:

"Act as a direct, demanding interviewer for a [role] position at a [company type]. Ask me behavioral questions one at a time. After my answer: tell me directly what was good, what was wrong, what was missing, and how to improve it. Do not soften your feedback – I need honest assessment, not encouragement."

The "do not soften" instruction aligns with Grok's default style – you get the critical feedback that actually improves performance.

Company research combining training and X access.

"[Company name] – I have an interview for [role] in two days. Give me: (1) what the company does and their market position, (2) what is being discussed about them on X right now – any recent news, public perception, or significant developments, (3) likely interview themes based on the role and company, and (4) two or three things that show I have genuinely researched this company."

Supplement with direct research at the company's website for current information.

Preparing specific interview questions.

"Based on this role [paste description], give me five specific, research-backed questions I can ask the interviewer. These should show I have studied the role and company – not generic questions. Be direct about which questions will most impress a sophisticated interviewer."

"Tell me about yourself" development.

"Help me build a strong 90-second 'tell me about yourself' for a [role] interview. Background: [summary]. What to emphasize: what is most relevant for this type of role. Be direct about what sounds weak or generic. Tone: confident, direct, professional."

Verification note: Supplement all Grok company research with the company's own website, recent press, and LinkedIn – Grok's training may not include very recent developments, and X posts represent public opinion rather than verified company information.
