The ProEdit Video Editor

Lesson 1: ProEdit Interface and Timeline Overview

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Navigate the main panels of the ProEdit interface
  • Understand how the timeline represents video, audio, and element layers
  • Distinguish between segment-level and global editing operations
  • Open ProEdit from a generated video and navigate to a specific edit point

Lesson Content

Opening ProEdit.

ProEdit is accessed from any generated Jogg.ai video. After generation, the video appears in your My Videos library. Select "Edit in ProEdit" (or the equivalent button in your current version) to open the full editor.

You can also use "Edit as New" on an existing video – this creates a copy in ProEdit for modification rather than editing the original. Edit as New is useful for creating variant versions of a published video without altering the original.

The ProEdit interface panels.

ProEdit organizes editing into several functional panels – verify exact layout at jogg.ai as the interface evolves:

Preview Panel: Plays the current state of the video. Scrub to any point in the timeline to preview a specific moment.

Timeline Panel: The horizontal timeline shows the video's layers – avatar/presenter track, voiceover track, background track, text/overlay track, music track. Each layer can be selected and edited independently.

Script/Voiceover Panel: Shows the full script with each segment mapped to its timeline position. Edit script text here to change what the avatar says. Changes require audio re-rendering for that segment.

Avatar Panel: Displays the current avatar selection. Swap the avatar from here – the change applies to the selected timeline segment or the entire video depending on where you apply it.

Elements Panel: Add text overlays, animated elements, image inserts, and clips from this panel. Drag elements to the timeline at the desired position.

Settings Panel: Controls output settings including aspect ratio, resolution, background music, subtitle on/off, and export options.

Understanding timeline layers.

The timeline shows multiple simultaneous tracks:

  • Presenter track: The avatar video
  • Voiceover track: The generated audio (your script delivery)
  • Background track: Visual background behind the avatar
  • Elements track: Text overlays, images, animated elements
  • Music track: Background music

Each layer can be trimmed, replaced, or modified independently. Understanding which layer you are editing prevents accidentally changing the wrong element.
