Mastering ChatGPT – Custom GPTs, Advanced Tools, and Power-User Workflows
Lesson 4: Design Your ChatGPT Power-User System
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Choose the right ChatGPT feature for each recurring task (chat, Project, Custom GPT, memory, files, or data analysis).
- Design a simple personal system that keeps context organized and private.
- Measure whether the system actually saves time.
Lesson Content
Power users do not use every feature. They match features to jobs:
- Plain chat: one-off questions and quick drafts.
- Projects: ongoing work with shared files and instructions (a job search, a client, a course). Keeps context together and separate from other work.
- Custom GPTs: a repeatable task you do often with fixed rules (parent updates, product descriptions).
- Memory and custom instructions: stable preferences (your role, preferred tone). Review saved memories regularly and remove anything private or outdated.
- Files and data analysis: documents and spreadsheets you need to search, summarize, or analyze.
- Templates: short prompts for frequent tasks that do not need a full GPT.
Feature availability varies by plan and changes over time; check what your plan includes.
Design rule: one place for each kind of work. Context mixing (personal, work, and client details in one long chat) causes confusing answers and privacy risk.
