ChatGPT as a Writing and Drafting Assistant

Lesson 4: From Blank Page to Final Draft – A Complete Writing Workflow

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Run a complete AI-assisted writing workflow from brief to final draft.
  • Decide which parts to write themselves and which to draft with ChatGPT.
  • Deliver a document that is accurate, well structured, and in their own voice.

Lesson Content

This lesson connects the course into one workflow you can repeat for any important document:

  1. Brief: purpose, reader, key points, tone, length, and facts.
  2. Structure: compare two or three structures and choose one.
  3. Draft: draft section by section, using your notes and voice profile.
  4. Layered revision: content, then structure, then style.
  5. Voice check: flag sentences that do not sound like you.
  6. Fact check: list every claim and verify the important ones.
  7. Final read: read it aloud once. Anything you would not say, change.

What to write yourself: the opening and closing, any personal story, and any sentence where your judgment or commitment matters. Readers notice when the key sentences are generic.
