Gemini as a Thinking and Planning Partner

Lesson 4: The Decision Brief – Planning with Gemini from Start to Finish

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Produce a one-page decision brief using assumption checks, a pre-mortem, and perspective-taking.
  • Draft and organize the brief in Google Docs with Gemini's help.
  • Keep the recommendation and final judgment their own.

Lesson Content

A decision brief is a one-page document that lets someone else understand and challenge your decision. Sections:

  1. The decision in one sentence.
  2. Options, including doing nothing.
  3. Criteria that matter.
  4. Key assumptions and how you checked them.
  5. Risks from a pre-mortem, with prevention steps.
  6. Stakeholder views, simulated and real.
  7. Recommendation in your words.
  8. What would change my mind.

Gemini in Google Docs can help organize sections, tighten wording, and check for gaps. Write the recommendation yourself, then ask Gemini to argue against it.
