Claude as a Writing and Drafting Assistant

Lesson 4: The Complete Claude Writing Workflow

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Run a full writing workflow with Claude on one real document.
  • Use Artifacts or Projects to keep drafts and templates organized.
  • Finish with a document that is accurate, clear, and in their own voice, plus reusable templates.

Lesson Content

This lesson connects the course into one repeatable workflow:

  1. Brief: document type, readers, content, goal, tone, length.
  2. Structure from notes: paste your notes; ask for an outline using only your material, with [MISSING] markers.
  3. Draft: draft section by section. Ask for the draft as an Artifact if your plan supports it, so you can view and revise it separately from the chat.
  4. Review: ask Claude to review for clarity, unsupported claims, and tone, then decide which suggestions to accept.
  5. Voice: rewrite the opening and closing in your own words.
  6. Fact check: list every claim, date, and number, and verify the important ones.
  7. Save the reusable parts: turn the brief and any repeating section into templates.
