Test, Launch, and Maintain Your App

Lesson 5: Costs at Scale, Backups, and Maintenance

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Estimate costs at 2x and 10x usage.
  • Set up backups and basic monitoring.
  • Write a monthly maintenance routine.

Lesson Content

Costs at scale: list what grows with usage (users, records, emails, AI calls, storage, workload or updates). Estimate monthly costs now, at 2x, and at 10x. Decide the trigger for upgrading or changing approach.

Backups: regular data exports stored somewhere you control; test that you can open them.

Monitoring: check error reports, usage dashboards, and the support inbox weekly in the first month.

Monthly maintenance: rerun the test plan's main tests, review permissions after any change, rotate keys if anyone left the team, review costs, export data, and plan one improvement.
