Writing the App Brief – The Credit Saver

Lesson 3: Your Data in Plain Words

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Describe data as tables and fields.
  • Describe relationships between tables.
  • Mark required and sensitive fields.

Lesson Content

Think of data as spreadsheets:

  • Tables (sheets): Customers, Requests, Staff.
  • Fields (columns): Requests has name, address, service type, photos, status, created date, assigned staff.
  • Relationships: "Each request belongs to one customer. Each customer can have many requests. Each request can be assigned to one staff member."
  • Required fields: the form cannot be submitted without them.
  • Sensitive fields: addresses, phone numbers, payment details. Mark them, collect only what you need, and plan who can see them.
  • Choices: status can only be new, quoted, won, or lost.
