AI Readiness Starter – Safe First Steps for New Learners

Lesson 4: Choose Your Next Step with AI

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Complete one safe AI task from start to finish: choose, protect, ask, check, and decide.
  • Explain the difference between "use it", "fix it", and "do not use it".
  • Choose a sensible next learning step based on what they want AI to help with.

Lesson Content

You now have the four readiness habits:

  1. Pick a safe task. Small, low-risk, and easy for you to check.
  2. Protect private details. Use placeholders such as [name] and [date].
  3. Ask clearly. Give the facts, the reader, the length, and the rules.
  4. Check before you use it. Look for invented details, missing facts, and wrong tone.

The last step is a decision. Every AI answer ends up in one of three piles:

  • Use it: it is accurate, clear, and you would be comfortable signing your name to it.
  • Fix it: it is close. Send one clarification prompt, or edit it yourself.
  • Do not use it: it is wrong, risky, or would take longer to fix than to write yourself.

"Do not use it" is not a failure. Knowing when to stop is part of using AI well.
