OpenAI Commands Mini Course – Starter Workflows

Lesson 4: Your Starter Command Toolkit

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Choose five everyday tasks that benefit from command-style prompts.
  • Write and test one short command prompt for each.
  • Keep the toolkit somewhere easy to use.

Lesson Content

A starter toolkit is five short prompts you can use every week. Each one follows the pattern job + input + format + limit:

  1. Summarize: "Summarize this in five bullets with any dates and decisions."
  2. Reply: "Write a friendly reply to this message, under 80 words, confirming [detail]."
  3. Plan: "Turn this to-do list into a plan for today with times, respecting [fixed commitments]."
  4. Explain: "Explain this in plain words for a beginner, with one example."
  5. Check: "List any facts, dates, or numbers in this text that I should double-check."

Keep the toolkit in a notes app or a pinned document. Change only the details in brackets each time.
