ChatGPT features and command shortcuts can differ by plan (Free, Go, Plus, and others), device (web, desktop, phone), region, and version. A tutorial may show a button or command you do not have. That is normal.
The reliable skill is the fallback prompt: describe in plain words what the missing feature would have done.
- Missing a "summarize" shortcut: "Summarize this in five bullets with decisions and dates."
- Missing a research mode: "Using only well-known, reliable sources, explain [topic]. Tell me what I should verify and where."
- Missing a "make a checklist" tool: "Turn this into a checklist with checkboxes, one action per line."
- Missing file upload: paste the important part of the text instead, with private details removed.
To check what your plan includes, look at the official ChatGPT help center and release notes rather than social media.
