Prompt Foundations for Business Owners

Lesson 2: Output Contracts and Review Loops

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Create an output contract for an AI response.
  • Use a review loop to improve the first draft.
  • Separate facts, assumptions, and recommendations.

Lesson Content

An output contract tells the AI exactly what fields or sections to return. This reduces cleanup time and makes results easier to compare.

Example output contract:

Return these sections: Summary, Recommended action, Customer-facing message, Internal note, Assumptions, Verification needed.

After the first answer, do not accept it blindly. Run a review loop:

  1. What did you assume?
  2. What information is missing?
  3. Which claims require verification?
  4. Rewrite the answer after applying the fixes.

Current AI assistants can draft, summarize, compare, and format information, but the business owner remains responsible for judgment, accuracy, privacy, and final approval.
