Getting Started with Runway
Lesson 4: Foundations Project – Your First Runway Shot, Start to Finish
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Write a short shot brief before generating.
- Generate and review a first Runway clip within a planned credit budget.
- Save the clip with its prompt, settings, and review notes.
Lesson Content
Beginners waste credits by generating before deciding what they want. A shot brief takes two minutes:
- Purpose: where will this clip be used?
- Subject: what is in the shot?
- Motion: what moves, and how does the camera move?
- Look: lighting, color, realism or style.
- Length and format: seconds and aspect ratio (16:9 for YouTube, 9:16 for Reels and Shorts, 1:1 for some feeds).
- Credit budget: how many generations you will allow.
After generating, review: Does it match the brief? Any warped hands, melting objects, or flicker? Would you show it to a client?
