Creative Workflows and Production

Lesson 3: Integrating Midjourney Into Production Pipelines

Lesson Objectives

By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:

  • Export Midjourney images in appropriate formats for downstream use
  • Integrate generated images into design tools (Figma, Photoshop, Canva)
  • Use generated images as backgrounds, textures, and compositional elements
  • Handle post-processing requirements for production-ready delivery

Lesson Content

Exporting from Midjourney.

Download generated images from the gallery or directly from Discord in full resolution. Midjourney generates PNG or JPG images – standard formats compatible with all design and production tools. For maximum quality, download full-resolution versions from the gallery rather than compressed Discord preview versions.

Integration with design tools.

Midjourney images integrate directly into Figma, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Canva as image assets – no special format conversion needed. Common integration workflows: using generated images as background visuals in presentations and layouts, as texture or pattern fills, as hero imagery in marketing materials, or as reference and concept images in client presentations.

Post-processing requirements.

Generated images often require post-processing for production delivery: background removal (for product images without clean backgrounds), color grading adjustment for brand consistency, resolution upscaling for large-format print, and retouching for specific artifacts. Plan post-processing requirements as part of the production workflow – AI generation and post-production are complementary.

Midjourney as part of a larger pipeline.

Midjourney excels at rapid generation of high-quality visual concepts – it is one tool in a broader pipeline, not a complete end-to-end production solution. Typical pipeline: Midjourney for visual concept and asset generation -> design tools for layout and compositing -> post-production for refinement and delivery formatting -> content distribution for final use.
