Submitting a prompt.

In Discord: use the /imagine command followed by the prompt text. In the web interface: enter the prompt in the prompt field. A simple starting prompt: a subject, setting, and brief style descriptor. Midjourney generates rapidly – the initial grid of four images appears in seconds to minutes depending on server load and settings.

Interpreting the image grid.

Midjourney generates four image variations simultaneously – a 2×2 grid labeled U1-U4 (upscale options for individual images) and V1-V4 (variation options to generate new variations of a specific image). The grid lets you see four different interpretations of the same prompt and select the best one for upscaling or further variation.

Upscaling a selected image.

The U buttons (U1-U4) upscale a selected image from the grid to a higher resolution, individual image. Upscaling is the standard path for images you want to save and use. After upscaling, additional options appear – including "Vary (Subtle)," "Vary (Strong)," and zoom/pan options depending on current interface version.

Saving generated images.

In Discord: click the generated image to open it full-size, then right-click and save. In the web interface: use the download option from the image's options. All generated images are also saved in the Midjourney gallery or profile, accessible from the website.
