Real-Time Canvas and Alchemy
Lesson 1: Real-Time Canvas – Interactive Generation
Lesson Objectives
By the end of this lesson, students should be able to:
- Navigate the Real-Time Canvas interface
- Use drawing and erasing tools to guide real-time generation
- Adjust prompt and settings while viewing live generation updates
- Apply Real-Time Canvas for creative exploration and concept development
Lesson Content
What Real-Time Canvas is.
Real-Time Canvas is an interactive generation environment where the generated image updates live as the user makes changes – drawing strokes, erasing areas, adjusting the prompt, or changing generation settings all produce immediate visual feedback as the canvas updates in near-real-time. This is fundamentally different from standard generation, which produces a fixed result after processing.
Drawing and canvas interaction.
In Real-Time Canvas, users can draw rough compositional strokes, mark areas with specific colors, or sketch basic shapes – the canvas generation interprets these strokes as compositional and content guidance. Darker strokes typically produce content; lighter or erased areas clear content. The generation updates as strokes are made, providing continuous visual feedback.
Adjusting prompt while canvas is live.
The prompt field updates the generation while the canvas is active – changing the prompt produces a new generative interpretation of the same canvas state. This enables rapid exploration: draw a rough composition, try multiple prompts against the same canvas structure, observe how each prompt changes the interpreted visual output.
Creative applications of Real-Time Canvas.
Real-Time Canvas is most valuable for: concept exploration when a specific composition direction is known but the visual content is being explored; interactive creative development where live feedback accelerates decision-making; and rapidly sketching and exploring visual directions without committing to a specific generation direction before seeing the result.
